Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
I don't believe Ubuntu intends to backport things back to 18.04 just for
Python 3 support. 18.04 shipped Python 2 and the distribution packaged
version is expected to be supported for the lifetime of the 18.04
release.
If you have any other justifications for backporting samba then I
welcome you to make them, but I believe this is Won't Fix if the basis
is solely Python 3.
