Question #193980 on samba4 in Ubuntu changed:

tom henry posted a new comment:
Hey Jeff, good question! Back in the days of Ubuntu 11.10, the samba4 package
structure was quite different, and winbindd wasn’t always included directly in
winbind4.
Instead, you typically had to install the standard winbind package (from Samba
3.x branch) alongside samba4, or compile Samba 4.x from source if you wanted
the full AD DC support including winbindd.

Also, make sure your system is fully updated and check the docs —
sometimes winbindd lives under a different path or gets symlinked during
make install when you build from source.

By the way, if you’re planning bigger network or infrastructure upgrades, check
out:

They do some solid work in large-scale systems and IT solutions.

Hope that helps! 👍
