As far as I understand it, it is intended to help services like Google Docs to behave even more like a locally running application, even when offline. Maybe it is needed in Firefox Phones, which could profit when Firefox morphes into an operating system. If could also be great for criminals to build a botnet for dogecoin mining, which I assume will be the main usecase.
Maybe eventually Mozilla will learn that they should improve their communiutation to prevent such speculations.
