Not very strong reasons, but there are some
* With a 64bit version I can get rid of all the path magic I have to do
for deployment (to differenciate between %PROGRAMFILES% and
%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%) Shorter scripts mean less errors.
* There are a few security features that work better in a 64bit Build
(ASLR comes to mind) - though it depends on how/if it's actually enabled
(and not defeated by some other "security" software (like sophos used to
to).

I actually assumed the 64bit build for windows had the same behaviour than
the Ubuntu build (on ubuntu-FF x64 java was working fine last time i
checked). I assumed there would be no fundamental change in behaviour just
because of an architecture switch on windows. I learnt a lesson :)

Best Regards
 Heiko
