Hello,
First, we should release 45.0.2esr today, Tuesday (we released the regular
45.0.2 version yesterday).
Because we delayed Firefox 46, Firefox 45.1.0esr and 38.8.0esr are delayed by a
week too.
As we publish security advisories, these releases have to be push the same day.
Hope this helps,
Sylvestre

the about:home page
below the search bar. This snippets change permanently from a promo of hello,
features, etc..
Could anyone give me a hint ?
Thanks

Setting
browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl
to an empty string should do it.
They are cached, though, so you might still see them if you do this after
you have run Firefox.
If you use the CCK2 to disable snippets, it will remove the whole snippet
box on the about:home page.

Using CCK2, most of the preferences are set and working well.
I ran into an error that I am not sure how to resolve, going to https://
websites causes these errors:
1. https://anywebsite: uses an invalid security certificate.
2. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is
unknown.
3. error code sec error unknown issuer
I added a certificate from a security web appliance/proxy gateway that we will
be using. Is there a script, that needs to be run before or after CCK2, or can
I just add it to an existing file?

If you add that certificate manually to Firefox, do you experience the same
problem?
I assume the problem doesn't happen if you don't add that certificate?

Subject: [Mozilla Enterprise] Pop-up whitelist in ESR 45
Message-ID:
<[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Hello,
A heads up that I had to duplicate my http entries to account for https in my
autoconfig file for ESR 45 related to the pop-up whitelitsting that ends up in
the permissions.sqlite file:
OLD:
//Config pop-up whitelist
Components.utils.import("resource://gre/modules/Services.jsm");
try{
Services.perms.add(Services.io.newURI("http://example.com", null, null),
"popup", 1);
}
catch(e){
}
NEW:
//Config pop-up whitelist
Components.utils.import("resource://gre/modules/Services.jsm");
try{
Services.perms.add(Services.io.newURI("https://example.com", null,
null), "popup", 1);
}
catch(e){
}
As an aside - is this the expected behavior and what drove this? It was not
required in 38 ESR...
Thanks,
Ryan Kasper

This was a change in Firefox 42.
I mentioned it here:
https://mike.kaply.com/2015/10/15/windows-10-permission-manager-and-more/
basically permissions were switched to be URL based instead of domain based.

Hi Sylvestre,
We're not see the updates appear in the feeds that programs like AutoPkg
use to check for updates. Was there a feed that was missed?

Subject: [Mozilla Enterprise] Disable outbound connections shavar and
telemetry
Message-ID:
<[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15; format=flowed
Hello,
we try to customize our next ff45.0.2esr to make no outbound connections
over our proxy.
In the past we often saw proxy-login-windows when a background-service
of ff wanted to get into the internet. We then tried to disable the
service or as a workaround set the affected timers to max-value.
This time we only saw outbound connection by using Wireshark.
There is no proxy-login-window opened.
There are two connections made:
- shavar.services.mozilla.com
- incoming.telematry.mozilla.org
The shavar URL can be found in the two configs:
- browser.safebrowsing.provider.mozilla.updateURL
- browser.safebrowsing.provider.mozilla.gethashURL
The telemetry URL in:
- toolkit.telemetry.server
Shavar seems to be a service, which can be used by many other services
in ff, for example the planned TrackingProtection.
Compare https://wiki.mozilla.org/Services/Shavar and
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Services/TrackingProtection/Shavar_Server_-_Testing
I think it's clear to me what telemtry does. But why is he still
uploading? The option that seems to configure this is
toolkit.telemetry.enabled and is false by default.
At the moment the only chance I see is to clear all 3 URLs in the
options named above. Or maybee redirect to localhost or so on.
Or does anyone have a smarter solution? Maybee some simple switch to
turn this off?
Best regards
Sebastian Metzger
