On my remaining WinXP(SP3)-x86 VMs the upgrade to 45.5.1 happened automatically, in that I was prompted to upgrade without having to go to "Help | About". With my Linux desktop systems the upgrade was provided via the usual distro update mechanism, and not directly from Mozilla.org. > Is there anything else I should check? I guess you should check that the "Mozilla Maintenance Service" is not disabled (assuming this is a Windows platform) ... "Settings | Administrative Tools | Services" or wherever Microsoft has buried it on later versions of Windows. > What might be the cause of this? I'm sorry but I have no other ideas. > Have I misinterpreted how automatic updates apply? I don't think so - I think your understanding is correct. It may help someone else answer better if you give more information about the environment & platforms involved. The settings in FF's "Tools | Options | Advanced | Updates" (or "Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Updates") vary considerably between Windows and Linux versions (can't speak for Mac versions).
