Thanks for the reply, Robert.

I don't understand what you said. I searched "aware/unaware app", but I can't find a description of that.

Firefox is aware and Firefox ESR isn't? Is there a way to make ESR aware?

This is a window manager issue; see the docs. In Gnome, aware apps toggle windows with alt-`. Unaware apps use alt-tab.

EDIT: What I can't do is to drag n' drop using Alt-Tab: that's the
way I used to use to organize tabs in different windows. Now, I
    click/drag tab and Alt-Tab doesn't switches between top-level
windows. Not even the task-switcher-window is shown.

I just installed Debian 9 with Mate (I come from Ubuntu-Mate

some differences, I would like to ask the list if these
features will be in future releases or they are only in
        non-ESR version:

        - Drag n' drop tabs from one window to another. In ESR, this
        is not possible.
        - Mouse to extreme right can click in scroll bar. With ESR, I
have to go back at least 1 pixel to click it.

        Thanks.
