The CCK2 Wizard cannot easily be ported to a WebExtension due to some internal things that it does (reading prefs, reading search engines, creating zip files, reading/writing files, etc.). I've thought about possibility porting it to a web application, but I think some folks would be concerned of the security implications.
But honestly, because anyone can just download the Firefox 52 ESR and run the CCK2 Wizard there, I don't consider this to be a problem. The CCK2 Wizard is something that actually isn't typically needed every day by folks, so I expect when you need it you'll just use the 52 ESR to run it. As far as support for Firefox 57 and beyond, this is the reason I've been encouraging folks to move to Autoconfig instead of using XPI files. Autoconfig should continue to work for the near future. I expect there to be some breakage in Firefox 57, particular around UI options (Sync and private browsing), and I will address those as they happen. I'm honestly not doing any testing on Firefox 57 right now, but so far no one has reported anything to me on the beta. And to answer the question about support about Pale Moon and other browsers, I see no technical reason why it can't work, but I'm not going to do anything to support it.
