Hi,

We are writing to let you know about changes to add-ons in Firefox that
might impact you and available migration resources. Firefox 57, released in
November, supports only add-ons built with the WebExtensions API
<https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions>. This means
Firefox 52 ESR is the last release that will support legacy add-ons.

Back in October, we published a blog post
<https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/10/03/legacy-add-on-support-on-firefox-esr/>
saying that support for ESR 52 will end in June 2018. *This date has been
pushed back two months to August.* This changed because the next ESR
version will be Firefox 60 instead of Firefox 59, to allow time to include a
policy engine
<https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2018/01/11/announcing-esr60-policy-engine/>that
increases customization possibilities and integration into existing
management systems.

If you developed an add-on that has not been updated to the WebExtensions
API, there is still time to do so. Documentation
<https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions/Porting_a_legacy_Firefox_add-on>
is available, and you can ask questions by emailing [email protected]
or joining the #webextensions channel at irc.mozilla.org.

If you are supporting users who are still using legacy add-ons, now is a
good time to encourage them to check compatibility
<https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/frequently-asked-questions-firefox-addon>.
We hope the extra time will help you transition more smoothly. Please don’t
hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance.

Thanks,
The Add-ons Team
