Do you find Entourage sluggish with so many messages? Do you have a lot of
dates and contacts? I imported around 18,000 calendar events and Entourage
seemed to slow down, even with a large ram allocation.
Entourage WAS sluggish at first – there was a noticeable lag, where I would be typing ahead of the letters appearing. As if the spell checking was taking up processor time. I have a G3/400 mhz machine, so that was weird –it felt like typing on an SE.
It is possible that compacting the database has quickened things up. By the way, on my machine, I have to reboot with extensions off in order to rebuild the database. On a regular reboot,with no programs loaded yet, Entourage won’t let me do a database rebuild – it claims that “other Microsoft programs are active.”
First I went through my folders, and selected the attachments button, and deleted almost everything with an attachment. All those old photos of my friend’s kids and such. Then I compacted the database by starting with the option key held down. Now I am not noticing the sluggishness. But I am not sure that rebuilding the database had anything to do with it.
Does anyone else know what is the cure for the sluggishness that sometimes occurs?
