Mbox format

I've read here about dragging mail folders to the desktop to create mbox
format files. However, I find that Eudora doesn't recognise them though it's
reputed to be able to read the format (and opens exported Mailsmith boxes
with no problems, for example). How does one get mail out of Entourage and
into another program, please?
