Reading this statement, I'm not sure how much of setting up a custom view
you understand. Just for the sake of covering everything, here's how you
setup the above Custom View...

In the Folder List select "Custom Views". From the "New" toolbar button,
select "New Custom View" or hit command-N. In the dialog that comes up fill
in the "Name:" field with a descriptive name such as "Current Tasks". In the
section titled "Item Types", deselect all check boxes except for "Tasks". In
the "Criteria" section change the "Match" pop-up menu to "if all criteria
are met". Use the "Add Criterion" button to add a second criterion. Modify
the first criterion to read:

1st menu - 2nd menu - text entry field
Due Date - Is less than - 1 days from now

Now modify the second criterion to read:

1st menu
Is incomplete

This will create a custom view that only displays incomplete tasks that have
a due date of today or older. I can't be modified to display tasks that are
current on an arbitrary day, just today.

You cannot modify the behavior of the "Tasks" section of the Calendar
window. It is only going to display Tasks with a due date of today (not the
day you have selected in the Calendar). That is why I have my Custom View
tied to a keyboard shortcut... So that I can open it in its own window and
have it display next to the Calendar.

I hope this clears things up.
