Apologies if I start a minor war here, but are we allowed to use HTML in this list?

Did I just open up a no-no topic, sort of like abortion and drug laws?

I would think, that since this is Entourage, we can all use it, but maybe it’s a bandwidth thing?

We’re allowed to use it. In the case of long scripts, Allen and I have been adhering to what was worked out for the OE list, in that we get rid of color multiple fonts, and other formatting, since color in particular adds enormously to data size and thus lengthy downloading for people on PPP connections, some of whom pay per second of connection. Eventually everyone will have fast internet connections, too. For now, we can be considerate in  the case of scripts, where the real advantage of HTML is in the soft-wrapping, so code is not messed up.

But even for “recreational” use, I’d say if HTML formatting is really going to make your message clearer by being able to highlight or emphasize certain things, or using indents will help, then go ahead. The main reason for outlawing HTML on other mailing lists is that email clients which can’t read it display all the HTML tags and some list servers mangle or delete the plaintext version that E sends as “multipart”. None of that applies on this list.

But the display name you give to this list, Scott, is misleading. It’s not a “Newsgroup”, it’s a mailing list. Why do you call it a newsgroup?
