It did it to me several times this morning. But now I can't reproduce it
either :-(

But it did something else weird. When I opened Cmd-4 earlier, there was no
calendar event listed in the top left panel (though there was one scheduled
and shown in the lower panel). Just the tasks (expanded) were listed. I
clicked on the checkbox of a task previously marked done (to revert to
incomplete)  and the calendar event for today was revealed in the Calendar
Event list. This was a one-off though.

Also, when I click on a task other than the first in the list,  the first
task being not complete yet, the checkbox for the first item briefly has a
checkmark displayed (for 1/2 second or so). This one seems repeatable across
reboots.

Of course neither of those is particularly important. BTW, I use a week view
for Cmd-4 with the top left panel pretty short.
