Often, the text of an incoming message cannot be replaced in the way the
script does it, which is:

>>     set the content of the displayed message of the front window to
>> theNewText

You may need to click on the Edit button in the message's toolbar before
running the script.

Or, for a draft window, you cannot get "the displayed message" of it,
because the message has not been saved; you need to save it first. You could
check for that in the script, like this:

if the class of the front window is draft window then save the front window

Once a window has been saved there is a message, and "the displayed message"
will work.
