Wonderful program, this Office 2001 -- lots of friendly features, useful
synergies, etc. But one that exasperates me as no other has ever done.
Sometimes I feel like a blind man being helpfully led by the MS hand through
minefields, across treacherous swamps, and around airplane propellers --
right up to the edge of a very high, very steep cliff, at which point the
helping hand moves from my arm to the small of my back and, with a gentle
and gracious farewell, gives me a hearty push.

Case in point...Entourage has a Japanese Contact Format function. Wonderful,
since I live in Japan and the vast majorty of my addresses are Japanese.
This contact format adds a number of useful fields, such as Send/Receive
Holiday cards, Furigana for japanese names, and Address Line 1/Line 2. I
proceeded to convert all of my addresses, thinking to use this great feature
for printing New Year's cards at the end of December.

Alas, MS Word's mail -merge feature doesn't seem to recognize these
additional fields, and so I can't print the Furigana fields, the nickname
field, or, most distressingly, the Address Line 2 field on my New Year
cards.

Someone on this list pointed out that Entourage has 58 data fields, and yet
I seem to have access to only a handful at printing time. Surely, there is a
way to access these fields for printing. Any ideas?

Moreover, to get around Entourage's inability to export (up to the edge of
the cliff, again) a selection of addresses, I came up with a rather simple
if tedious procedure: select the desired contacts, drag them to the desktop,
switch identities, then drag the contacts back from the desktop.
Only....half the information in the original contact is gone, including
Category, and the contact format switches from Japanese Contact format to
the standard format and I lose Postal Codes, etc.

Can anyone help? Thanks!
