Open the mini-Address Book in the new message window itself – click the Address Book icon there to get it. You CAN drag those names to the BCC field from there, can't you? Don't keep it open as a permanent preference or it slows down message opening . (This may be something they'll get around to fixing soon.)

With the BCC pane visible, try clicking the Address Book button in the
message's toolbar, and drag the addresses from the little window that pops
up. That works.
