I am not sure why the Finder would quit. Perhaps your calendar/contacts DB has grown enough that you need to up the memory on the Conduit Manager (although usually that is what would crash not Finder).

After a couple of restarts the finder quit issue cleared up and I got a message that –a connection could not be made with the desktop-. I traced the problem to corrupted USB card support software . This same thing happened before so it was the first thing I reinstalled and voila.
