You can turn off _complex_ HTML (the fancy graphics stuff that requires the
message to get the fancy content from a ebsite) in the Read preferences. To
turn off the styled text type of HTML, you'd need to use one of the scripts
written for this (they're not mine, so I'm not certain of the name, but it
should be obvious).
