I also use a hotmail account for some correspondence -- particularly online
accounts -- and I thought that, given the recent discussion of Hotmail
features, others might want to know about yesterday's CNN story.

Yesterday afternoon on CNN (tv, not .com) an investigative story announced
that Microsoft had been questioned about its recent opening of Hotmail
address books to a third-party advertiser.

This was reported as a new "partnership" that Microsoft had entered, and
that opened user profile information to the marketing firm.

It also reported that Hotmail address books and accounts were "cross
referenced and matched" to mailing and telephone data.

Microsoft reportedly earned millions off the deal, and has provided an "opt
out" method for "new subscribers, on the account sign-up page" since the
news broke.

They did NOT mention anything about "old subscribers" to the service, and
how we might (too late) opt-out.

I am sure you could find more on CNN or Headline News, and there may be web
stories at those sites.

I, for one, plan to stop using Hotmail immediately for any mail.

Shame on Microsoft.
