I discovered recently that this doesn't work. I think in order to get a
banner, you need to have the event an all-day one, and then say it goes from
Friday to Sunday. I didn't try any of your work arounds on the three days,
starting at a time and ending at a time, since I concluded that doing it
that was was going to produce two events (I happened to be doing a 2-day
event), not a banner, and I wanted a banner.

I tried this with a test event. As expected, when I first put it in to start
on one day at a specific time and end two days later at another time, it did
3 events. But when I changed it to an all-day event, it did a single banner,
just as I'd expect.

Again, I did not duplicate this. My test event shows up at the top of each
of the three days.

However, I never made this a recurring event.

I did this with a multi-day event and it did what I'd expect. I didn't try
with a repeating event, perhaps your problem was that the repeating series
of events was still there, and in addition you had the single edited event?
