Close the Progress Window now and it will never bother you again. Why bother
with the Progress Window? If you ever really need to know detailed progress
of some large download, open the PW just for that occasion, then close it
again afterwards.

Again, why bother with the Progress Window anyway?

With the Progress Window closed, it seems as if the new window will always
open on your main monitor, so you'll never have that problem.
