It shouldn't send an Expunge it should send a Close on the folder that
is selected. According to the RFC a CLOSE will remove messages marked
for deletion without the need for the client to wait for a return from
the server. This way it is quicker for Entourage to have the server
remove a lot of messages from a folder at one time.

Subject: EXPUNGE not done for IMAP?

I've just got back from an Australian holiday to discover that the
Office2001 SR1 patch has been released, and I can now use Entourage with
the EIMS IMAP server. Hooray! However, it seems that messages in my
IMAP account which are marked as deleted, and purged with the "Purge
Deleted Items" option, are reappearing when I log back into the account
(although still marked as deleted).

I captured a session stream of commands while deleting and purging, and
it seemed that while Entourage did tell the IMAP server to set the
delete flag when I mark the message deleted, it didn't issue an IMAP
"EXPUNGE" command either when I chose "Purge Deleted Items" or when
Entourage quit (I have the "purge on quit" set for the account).

I didn't see anything in the archives about a general problem with IMAP
deleting, and I'll try it with a test account and also fire up the
WebStar IMAP server for a test. There was a report of a similar problem
on the EIMS list concerning Entourage SR1 while I was gone, but no-one
there ever replied. Has anyone seen a similar problem using a different
IMAP server? I'll post whatever results I find - I'm really hoping that
this isn't another glitch in Entourage that would keep us from using it
with EIMS.
