Hi,
I have the English edition of Office 2001 installed on my computer and I
have a couple of language-related questions:
1. Sometimes, when proofing my documents in Entourage, the "Add" option in
the Control-click menu is grayed out and I can't add new words to my custom
dictionary. However, If I select a different spelling dictionary, and then
immediately reselect the previous spelling dictionary, the Add command is no
longer grayed out and I can add the word. Is this a known bug? I've
noticed this behavior when proofing documents with the French Canadian
spelling dictionary (I'll select English (US), then French Canadian again
and I can start adding words)... I'm not sure if it ever happened while
proofing with the English (US) dictionary...
2. Is there a Canadian English spelling dictionary available? On the
Canadian Windows edition of Office, I have always had both spelling
dictionaries installed and there are many differences in spelling such as
color / colour, center / centre, etc. I guess I could use English (UK), but
I'm sure there are some other differences there too.
3. In my Mac Office edition, I have English (AUS), English (UK), English
(US), French and French Canadian spelling dictionaries. Currently, I only
use the English (US) and French Canadian spelling dictionaries. How can I
get rid of the others?
4. Is it possible to have have the French Canadian (or French) Dictionary
feature (the one with the popup word definitions?). This is a very useful
feature, but only half of what I write is in English, the other half is in
French. I'd really like to have the Dictionary available in both
languages...
5. If above is not possible, is there any kind of promotion/rebate/discount
that would allow me to have the French edition of Office? Essentially, I'd
be installing both on the same computer and only using one of the two at any
given time. There is no way I'll pay full price again (or even the regular
upgrade price which is ~450$ just to get a handful of language-specific
features...
6. Given that Mac OS X now comes out of the box in a multiple languages
edition, is there any chance Office for X will also support multiple
languages out of the box?
And finally, one somewhat unrelated question:
Does anybody know how to select a different language in the Mac OS X system
spelling service (the one used in the Mail app for instance)? It always
uses English on my system, even on a French Mac OS X desktop...
Thanks for your help,
ric Trpanier

PS: when proofing this email message, the spelling checker fails to
recognize my email address above and put wavy red lines underneath it, yet I
have the option to "Ignore Internet and file addresses"... Why is it not
recognizing my email address as such and ignoring it? I've noticed the same
problem in Outlook 2000 under Windows...
