I know I'm late to this discussion, but since nobody's mentioned the correct
answer yet...
For Netscape Navigator (stand-alone which is still at version 4.0.8) all you
need to do is specify the default mail application in either the Internet
control panel or Internet Config (depending on your OS version).
Netscape Communicator 4.7x has an option in the preferences, under the
"Navigator" section to "Handle links with system-specified helper
applications". Check this and it will use whatever the specified mail
application is in the Internet control panel or Internet Config (again
depending on OS version).
I hope this clears things up.
