To the developers:

Guys, I use DATEBK4 on my Visor, and I've encountered the duplication
problem brought up in the following exchange between C.E. Steuart Dewar (the
developer of Datebk4) and an Entourage user.

Is there any encouraging word I might pass back to the Datebk4 list on this
problem?

Translation: sounds like a silly bug in the Entourage conduit - it's not
noticing that just the note field of an event was changed. When you coded
the existing item for a color, DateBk4 wrote a tag into the note field. Any
competently-written conduit will of course recognize the event as changed
and propagate the change to the desktop. The Entourage conduit is so weak
though that it fails even this most elementary of synchronization tests and
thinks it's a new event and so copies it to the desktop - resulting in
duplication.

I suggest to confirm this you take an existing appointment and just make a
1-character change in the note field and see if that duplicates. If not,
then it's even more bizarre as it indicates that Entourage is not reliably
handling note fields.

Right now based on support emails I get, Entourage has one of the poorest
written conduits of any PIM. Hopefully, they'll release an update that at
least works at an acceptable level of reliability.

Real problem is that without tracking the unique ID's (as is done in the
Palm Conduit), conduits are left to use heuristics for the synchronization,
and some programmers new to this problem don't know them and re-invent the
wheel (badly).

Cheers!

Spot on - see below.

It did. :-(

I don't really want to go back to the Palm Desktop because of the
way Entourage is so tightly integrated into Office 2001. But I may
have to!!!

Many thanks.
