I set up my Airport base station with v1.2 of the software. It did <not>
support PPPOE, and there was a good bit written about how to set up a router
along with it to support PPPOE. But then v1.3 came out (two days after my
router was delivered), and the router was no longer necessary. You probably
got confused by some of the old documentation or comments.
