The little filter only filters what actually appears in the columns. That's
how it's so fast. And, as you say, if a sender uses a display name in his
email program, that's all you see in the :From" column. And if you reply to
him with the Reply button, that's what you'll see in the To column, so
that's what the mini-filter acts on.
Just press cmd-opt-F for Advanced Find, switch the criterion to "To" (and
the email address of the selected message will show up in the text box
making it even quicker if that's what you're searching for), and change "All
Folders" to "This Folder" for speed. It will find any domain, or any
sequence of letters like "nacio" quite quickly.
The mini-filter is an "extra". Get used to Advanced Find where the
mini-filter is not suitable. It's really very good.
