Try an alternative way then:
A) Create a second "User" in Entourage called "Archives". Move old email
and sent items to that user and then when you want to access archives just
click on File, Switch Identity, and access your archives. Of course this
could get very large very quickly, but it is an alternative.
B) Create a folder on your hard drive called "Entourage Archives" or "Email
Archives". Create sub folders of Q1_01, Q2_01 etc. or by date, such as
080101_120101 for a date range. Alternatively if you want to make it easier
to find a particular message you can also segregate the subfolders into
"Sent email" and "Received email". Every three months or so, go into your
sent items and delete items and run a query by date, such as "Show me all
messages older than 30 days". Then highlight all and click and drag to copy
those messsages to the archives subfolder. Or if you don't require
archiving all of your email, you can just archive or backup specific
folders.
C) As with B above, but burn it to a CD ROM for safekeeping instread of on
your hard drive. Or put it on your hard drive and use an off-site backup
solution like BackJack http://www.backjack.com/ .
One obvious problem to this solution is that if you want to search for a
specific message you have to re-import that portion of your archives back
into ER by dragging. This is admittedly nowhere near as effective as a
database application or archive, but it doesn't cost anything and will do a
decent job of maintaining a record of past messages in case you need to pull
one up months from now.
Hope this helps.
