I fully intend to write scripts that:
1) Export and Import whole Task lists
2) Print task lists
3) Export and import Calendars (whole event lists for recreating)
The trouble with nos. 1 and 3 is that Entourage's scripting has serious gaps
in this department: you can't specify due dates of task or recurrences of
events or tasks. Therefore there didn't seem to be much point in even
attempting them at this stage, If you look closely, you'll see that the
script you're all talking about requires the person who receives the import
to enter these items manually from information about them in the task
window's notes. Whereas that seems reasonable for one-event-at-at-a-time, it
does NOT seem reasonable for Task lists. (The script was written for someone
who wanted to synchronize task lists with employees on a daily or weekly
basis, and works well that way.)
SO - I'm hoping that in Entourage for OS X, due dates of tasks, and
recurrence and reminders will all be fully scriptable (write as well as
read). If so, I shall write these scripts fairly quickly. They CANNOT be
written now, due to the limitations in Entourage's present AppleScripting.
No. 2 - printing task lists, present a different problem - columns and
presentation. This cannot be done done in a normal text file, or an
Entourage Note. It will have to be done by exporting to an Excel Worksheet
and/or - better - a Word Table. When I've mastered he Visual basic scripting
for the latter, I will do this too. It won't have to wait for Office 10.
I hope this provides something of an explanation for the "scripting gap".
