For those of you not on the Entourage mailing list...
Just to save about 1000 more emails and news messages like this, how about a
new press release, or at least a photo with the little buttons posted
somewhere? And maybe a big thank-you to Erik Barzeski for making such a fuss
about this here in the beta list? he evidently is representative of a vocal,
and probably very large, group of users who would all have felt the same
way. I wouldn't do without the little buttons either. the big buttons will
be great for the average user upgrading from 2001 and wondering where
they've landed, then a few weeks later, they'll probably switch to the
little buttons if someone tells them where to find the pref. We're still
going to get thousands of such requests from people who don't think to look
in the prefs, but thank god there will be an easy answer to them!

I saw the announcement of Entourage X on the Microsoft web site, including
the following graphic:

One of the cosmetic changes appears to be moving the "function" buttons out
of the Folder List and into a separate large "button" area (Mail, Address
Book, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Custom Views).
Please, please, please (can you tell I'm begging? <grin>) tell me this is an
option. To me, who has lots of filed mail folders, this seems like a
significant waste of space, as it cuts down on the amount of visible space
allocated to the Folder List (in other words, it looks like much more space
is used for the buttons than is gained in the Folder List by removing them).
This will require significantly more scrolling and mouse movement.
I can see from the various screen shots that things are functionally
organized a bit differently in EX, necessitating this change. However, at
the very least, can the buttons be made much smaller so that the Folder List
can be enlarged? To me, a better approach would be to make the "function"
buttons the same size as the "New Message" "Forward" and "Reply" buttons,
and to place them to the left of those buttons, increasing the Folder List
to it's previous size along the left side of the window.

Also, I see that some Word X editing tools are now available in Entourage.
Will Entourage X have a find/replace option?
