Hmmm - it has been a while since I set it up. First, make sure nothing else
is using the IR port (i.e., Appletalk), then enable Hotsyncing with the Hot
sync manager, and set it to IR synching. That should do it on the Mac end of
things. 

On the Palm side, you need to verify that you have all of the components for
IR synching installed. They are built in to Palm OS in version 3.1 or so and
up (I cannot remember the exact version - but it is important to get it
right), but need to be installed in earlier versions. The components you
need are on the CD Rom that contains the Palm Desktop for Macintosh.
Actually, I would advise getting the latest PalmOS you can for your Palm, as
some of the earlier versions of the OS had some nasty time related bugs. One
of the last free upgrades to PalmOS 3 had the IR stuff built in - that is
what I am using.

Set the Palm for IR sync, and you should be all set.
