To elaborate a bit, it's just a little odd that the key equivalent shown on the menu isn't the (only) key that performs the action.
Personally, I would hate to have to hit Cmd-Delete to delete a message, and I do realize that there's no facility in the Menu Manager for showing two command keys on a menu.
