Well,  just tried it and it did not work for me. Perhaps you can explain how
it works for you, or when?

Here is my sequence of action:

1. Open a new incoming message (unread till that point).

2. Press the Delete key. Message disappears from current folder, next unread
message opens up.

3. Try Cmd-Z; nothing happens. Check the Edit menu; undo is greyed out.

Perhaps there is some preference setting that affects the way things work? I
tried switching the action on delete from "Open next message" to "Close the
window," but that did not seem to help.
