Greetings,

My congratulations to the MS guys for a job well done with the Complex
Rebuild feature.

I left my office to go have dinner, and when I returned, MacOS X was
wedged hard. No cursor movement, no nothing. I rebooted the machine, and
when I tried to open Entourage, I got a complaint of an "unknown error
4359".

I rebooted into 9 so I could Disk First Aid the system (and I just feel a
bit more comfortable in 9, still).

I tried launching Entourage after running DFA, and I got the same error.
So, I tried again holding Option and having it do a Basic Rebuild, but that
failed with "The file is already open for writing". Then Entourage asked if
I wanted to try a Complex Rebuild, and I said yes. Again it failed with the
"already open for writing" error.

I was pretty much in dismay, but finally, a little of my ex-Apple Engineer
self clued in and I thought that maybe Entourage had left the file open when
it first tried to launch. So, I rebooted, and then launched Entourage
holding Option the first time. The Basic Rebuild failed and complained of
4359.

Finally, I rebooted one last time and went straight to Complex Rebuild.
Hooray! This worked beautifully, and I'm back up and running. Since my
tape backup was a week old, this is a happy circumstance. Thanks MS team!!

Congrats out of the way, we'll jump right into the "please fix". :-)
Entourage team, sometimes if Entourage bails during startup, it looks like
it leave the files open, preventing a database rebuild. This might cause
people to give up hope and restore their databases from backup when it was
actually recoverable.

Best,
--Mike
