No, it is not. > (As someone pointed out to me off list, if you or Harry produced > shareware software, for example, you might have very different feelings > about this.) To whoever deems to know how Greg and I feel if we were shareware authors - props to you having tapped into an alternate universe. In *this* universe, this is exactly how shareware works (you try it, you show it, you buy it), so why would I (I can't speak for Greg) object to users downloading my shareware porduct, using it, and then not just purchasing it for themselves, but also spreading it throughout their office..? That is exactly what went on here - and the state of the law is largely irrelevant. > I think thats fine and I am glad that you were able to help someone make > the decision that is best for them. Even though Greg broke the law and brought about the decline of western civilization? Seriously, the 'law' in this case is here (and useful) in order to prosecute those people that actually sell and trade in pirated software - in other words, those folks that actively and verifiable cause financially harm to a publisher. While, technically, the activities you seem to morally despise are in violation of certain laws and NDAs, the final outcome is what matters, and should be taken into consideration - a final outcome you seem to agree, and be glad about, even though the process apparently violated your moral standards. The point is, the world we live in is NOT black/white as you lay it out, and those of us in the filed doing real work, and busting our asses to get Macs in more hands, sometimes need to do whatever it takes - in Greg's case, it appears he needed to make the point about certain products (that weren't available at the time) to management, so he did. That's a real-world situation.
