There was a brief article/interview with Jobs, when the iPod was released, in which he said that they had considered doing a PDA but that he (Jobs) thought that the PDA market was on a downturn and that Apple could have a better impact in the music market. Looks like he got that right. For me, anyway, my iPod is getting way more use than my PDA right now.
