(Even if they're empty, they still have to retrieved.) OS X is going to be taking up a lot of memory, Classic partition a lot, perhaps you had some other apps open? Classic seems to leak memory too, so it's not impossible that the total available wasn't enough for the applet in the end. No problem with HD space or VM obviously. This seems like such a tedious thing to have to test, but i will try it with my new scripts. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can test it properly in OS 9.2.2 or Classic for the 2001 version, where it probably matters more, because of the 9.2.2 AppleScript problem (being looked into by Apple, BTW).
