I just tried EvX with my self-certified SSL server. This same configuration
works correctly under Mac OS 9 IE/Entourage 2001, with IE able to install
the certificate authority and identity certificate for Entourage. The same
can not be said for IEvX and EvX. Not only does EvX give me a series of
unrecognized security certificate dialogs, and after the series of dialogs
(4 or 5 of them), EvX crashes.

Yes, I realize that self-created CAs aren't as convenient as a full Verisign
or Thawte certificate, especially since IE and Entourage now *always* ask
for a certificate password, even though the password is blank. Perhaps I
have something not configured correctly either in the CA or the identity
certificate, but I've been using IE and Entourage connecting to the self-CA
Linux server under Mac OS 9 and Classic with no problems at all for a couple
of months. Terminal using OpenSSL don't have a problem connecting to the
server, neither does Windows, either by accepting the identity certificate
directly (which the Mac version doesn't allow), or by adding the CA
certificate to the list of authorities (which causes the Mac versions of
apps to require me to enter a "certificate password" from that point
forward).

However, there doesn't seem to be a way to get self-signed certificates into
EvX, and that is a change from E2001. Neither Mac version is as convenient
as Windows (or Linux/OpenSSL for that matter).
