There have been some problems reported with rules imported from 2001, so if you have only 4-5 of them, as you say, I'd strongly advise deleting and re-entering them all. It sure isn't a guaranteed fix, but it seems a small effort to make. As to how this could cause <Word> to crash, no, I cannot imagine that Entourage rules could be involved in triggering crashes in Word.
