LiveSync requires that your server supports the IMAP feature 'IDLE'.
To verify if your server supports IDLE, connect to your server once,
then right-click the account's icon in the folder list and choose 'Get
Info'. That will display a string your server sent you listing its
supported features. Look for 'IDLE'. If 'IDLE' is not displayed,
LiveSync will not function.

It's a know issue that the above is unclear to the user. I believe that
Entourage should check for IDLE itself as soon as it connects for the
first time. It could then change its UI to indicate LiveSync's
unavailability.

That change has yet to make it into the application however.

Subject: Schedules vs. Stay Connected

I'm on a "permanent" DSL connection, and wish to "stay connected" to my
IMAP mailbox rather than use a schedule to pick up mail every so often.

In the "Tools/Accounts" Options tab, I have "LiveSync" selected, and
also "Connect Immediately on Launch".

With this configuration, Entourage does not seem to notice when I
receive new mail.

Am I misunderstanding this feature, or is this simply not enabled with
the Entourage Test Drive?

Thanks!
