Title: Outlook 2001 Exchange client, Mac OS X, Entourage?
I know this is off-topic for this list, but at the same time I’m sure it is of interest to most people here.
I noted the comments in response to the original topic posted under this subject, and I am prepared to regard them as mildly encouraging that we can expect some sort of solution to the big problem of Exchange server access under OS X. One of the big reasons that Microsoft should be considering this is that Exchange is an attractive email server solution even to mac-only shops (because of its collaboration features in particular, certainly not because of its ease of administration!), and this must represent a revenue opportunity to Microsoft. But no-one is going to adopt this approach while MS don’t commit to providing a client that is native to OS X.
I personally have two clients who would love to have the benefit of Exchange functionality (and I could go into the specifics of why, but won’t here for reasons of conciseness), but will not go ahead for precisely the reason I have mentioned above. In the short term they are sticking with OS 9.2.2, but they know that before long the benefits of moving to OS X will become compelling. So in the meantime they continue with a below-par solution to email serving because they (and I on their behalf) see no alternative that will be satisfactory into the future.
