Subject: Re: Slow sluggish speed in Entourage X

Hi Diane,

No indexing going on in the background like Sherlock.

The only two third-party programs that I've installed that seem to
have any background activity are "Keyboard Maestro" and "FaxSTF X".

But there are absolutely NO noticeable slowdowns in any other programs
at all. I'm talking about comparing Entourage X 10.0.1 side-by-side
with CTM's PowerMail, or comparing Entourage X side-by-side with
QuickMail Pro, or comparing Entourage X side-by-side with Eudora, or
comparing Entourage X side-by-side with Apple's Mail. As of last
week, I had the fastest hardware available (dual 800 MHz G4). I have
1.5 GB RAM. I have 160 GB hard drive space. And Mac OS X 10.1.2.

I can't max out this machine anymore, and Entourage is still S-L-O-W
as molasses. Slow typers and people who are slow to respond to things
will probably not notice this... but as soon as you switch into one of
those lighter, faster, more elegant email programs, you realize how
much faster your life can be.

And the biggest problem is that Microsoft doesn't listen to us. Even
if thousands of people complained about this problem, Microsoft still
won't do anything about it because they only care about piling on
features. They don't care about actually making a FAST & EFFECTIVE
user interface. I know several people who have also complained to me
about the speed of Entourage X -- they don't even KNOW how to complain
to Microsoft. They think it "must be them" or it "must be something
wrong with their machines" or that "they need a faster machine".
Well, I've got the fastest machine around and have maxed it out with
RAM and I'm an Apple Solution Expert with 12 years of Mac consulting
experience... and Entourage is STILL slower than all those other
programs.

Yes, there's a few features of Entourage X that I really like a lot,
but I am willing to throw away Entourage X and those few features in
return for a program that's actually responsive.

This is ALWAYS the case with Microsoft -- they sacrifice speed in
exchange for functionality. And I've had just about enough of it.

Scott
