When I tried the Office v.X Test Drive, I successfully imported my Claris Emailer and Palm Desktop databases into Entourage. I decided to purchase Office, cleaned out all the Test Drive data, and now I cannot import data into the purchased program. Here is the sequence of events.
1) Ran the deinstaller program that came with the test drive, and deleted my Microsoft User Data folder, and all com.microsoft.* preference files which seemed to be associated with Office Test Drive. 2) Installed Office v.X by dragging Microsoft Office X folder to Applications folder. 3) Registered software (getting a Pentagon security clearance might take less work). 4) Configured General Prefs and Mail & News Prefs in Entourage. 5) Tested basic mail receive and send functions. No problems. 6) Boot into OS 9.2.2, launch Claris Emailer 2.0v3. Delete most mail messages, and most address book records. Database is now only about 200KB. RAM partition for Emailer is 10MB. 7) Do advanced rebuild of Emailer database, launch program and check to ensure that rebuilt database is still readable. 8) Boot into OS X 10.1.3, launch Entourage. Start import of all Emailer data. Classic starts up. Emailer starts up. No activity. After 5 minutes, I switch to Entourage. It is displaying a message: "Importing data from Claris Emailer" (or something similar). Entourage appears frozen. 9) Force quit Entourage. Reboot into X. Do a normal rebuild of Entourage database. Try import again. Similar failure. 10) Force quit Entourage. Reboot into X. Do advanced rebuild of Entourage database. Try import again. Similar failure. 11) Force quit Entourage. Reboot. Try importing only the Emailer address book. Similar failure. 12) Force quit Entourage. Export Emailer address book as tab-delimited text file. Attempt to import the text file into Entourage. Entourage displays all the text file headers as "unmapped." When I attempt to drag them into the "mapped headers" area, nothing happens. Does anyone know what is going on here? Why did the import work on the test drive but not on the purchased program? -- Julian Vrieslander <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
