Paul Berkowitz has been developing AppleScripts to allow such swapping of
data:
To All:
I realize that many of you will have given up on this long ago and no longer
have a need for the export-import scripts. For those who would still like to
try them out, please let me know, and I will send them to you. Please say
whether you want the Entourage X or Entourage 2001 package, or both (you
need both for exporting one to the other).
They've become rather more extensive than first planned. here's what they
do:
Export-Import Entourage
for Entourage X and 2001
[OS 9.2.2 requires Akua Sweets scripting addition]
41 scripts to export and import almost everything Contacts, Groups,
Calendar Events, Tasks, Notes, Messages, Folders, Accounts, Signatures,
Mailing Lists and Categories from one identity of Entourage X or 2001 to
another identity of the same or different Entourage or version, on the same
or different computers, and to and from other PIM programs on the Mac and
Windows.
They can also be used for archiving data from your regular identity, and are
then easily accessible via the Import scripts or via Microsoft Excel. All
scripts give you the option of exporting All Items, Selected Items, or
(where available) Flagged Items, and also By Category in Entourage X
exports. You can export categories themselves if you wish, and choose if and
what to do about duplicate imports: Replace (update), Don't Import, or Keep
Both. AppleScripting in Entourage X is better than 2001's for Calendar
Events and Tasks, so X-to-X works best there, but there are workarounds for
the less complete 2001 scripting.
You can use the scripts to export your whole identity to another copy of
Entourage on a different computer, or to "sync" items on a regular basis to
your own or others' identities. You can also use the Export scripts for
archiving to text files on disk, or to your own "Archive" identity in
Entourage, keeping your regular identity lean and quick. Or you can archive
data (such as messages) and delete them from your identity, ready to import
back if needed.
The Import scripts are provided to import the data back into another copy or
identity of Entourage, but the tab-delimited text files made by the Export
scripts can also be imported into Excel, Word and FileMaker Pro, and from
there on into other PIM programs. There are also special scripts to convert
the files to and from CSV files for export to and import from Outlook
Windows and Mac (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes) some of which also
work with Yahoo and Hotmail online Calendars and Address Book. You should
also be able to import from other PIM and database programs with
instructions provided here and the Import scripts. There are conversion
scripts for importing groups to Excel and converting dates in Excel and FMP
to formats needed by other PIMs, and vice versa.
----------------------------------------
The "conditions' are that you report back to me how things went. There are
so many options that I may have missed testing a few particular ones, and
there could still be a bug lurking here or there. I would like to have
everything OK when I release them (hopefully within a week - this has gone
on long enough!). While you're busy with that, I plan to consolidate the 14
ReadMes into one Word document, plus just a simple Install & QuickStart
ReadMe. I'm also interested in knowing if you manage OK with these ReadMes
which refer to both the X and 2001 versions, or whether it would be better
to split them into separate X and 2001 ReadMes.
Looking forward to hearing back from some of you.
Best,

(Please note that my email address is now <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Please
change it in your Address Book if you still have the 'humanitas' domain. The
'humanitas' address will stop working soon.)
Thanks to excellent bug reports from Kathleen Fitzpatrick and Chris Peoples,
5 bugs in 7 scripts in both X and 2001 have been fixed: Folders Export,
Tasks Export, Reset Dialogs, all 4 Outlook to EvX and E2001 converters. So
I've put a full 1.0b8 update of each package on my website:
http://homepage.mac.com/berkowit28/
Export-Import Betas folder.
I've removed 1.0b7 and the three individual updates that were there earlier.
The downloads are so big (2 MB each) that some ISPs have been rejecting them
in email. So this is how I'm distributing to you beta-testers now. Please do
NOT publicize their location as they are not for general distribution yet.
