In incoming messages, there is a pale blue (aqua, I guess) area that becomes visible when you activate the Preview Pane. Messages with attachments use this area to contain the attachment list window which can be toggled open or shut with the arrow to the left of the word Attachments.
Here's the problem: Whether or not there are any attachments, the blue area seems to have a tendency to grow to a height far more than is needed. You would expect it to be about a 1/4" beneath the attachment window, or just enough to display the header data when the message has no attachments. And indeed, that's how it is when everything is working properly. But, every so often, I find it's become about 3 inches tall, and I can't figure out why. However, I have found that doing a rebuild procedure restores it to normalcy, except that a few hours later, it's back again. Any ideas on this?
