Names not deleting from group email list

Title: Names not deleting from group email list

I created a group email list.  A while later, I deleted several people from that list.  When I sent an email out to that list, the people who I had deleted received that email.  I checked on the list of names for that group email and the names I had deleted are not there.  How did those people receive an email?
