Title: Server is busy issue
Hello

I am attempting to track down the cause of an error message which says “Server is busy. Try again later” when attempting to send SMTP mail via Entourage OS 9.

My ISP (Cox Communications business service) is “sure” they are not the cause, although two different users in two different locations have experienced the issue.

The error message contains no error number or other information.  The ISP’s speculation is that we are experiencing a connectivity issue and the message is Entourage’s way of saying there is no connection.  Doesn’t seem plausible to me but in order to beat back the usual “We don’t support Entourage” or “What is Entourage” bureaucratic warfare, I’m searching for more information.

We are using the ISP’s SMTP server.  The problem is intermittent and it began after the great @Home switchover. The message can occur for a few seconds to 20 minutes, preventing sending email.  One system connects via Airport to a hub to a Cisco 675 (DSL) and the other connects via Airport to a switch to a cable modem.

The ISP claims to have monitored their system and have not seen it, but I’m experienced enough to know that they often don’t know what their own system does. I’ve seen other frequent glitches on their residential service where mail can’t be sent because “the domain can’t be located” when using another domain as a reply address. Also intermittent and the mail always goes through eventually.

Appreciate any and all input.

Thanks
