When I set up a mail list manager entry where the actions are “move to folder Lists” and “set category to Lists”, the move takes place (from an IMAP server, and leaving a copy in Deleted Items, but that’s another story), but the category change never takes place. Is this a bug, or is this a feature....Sounds like a bug. Can you try only setting the category, not moving to a folder. Des the category change take place?
That's correct. (The MLM is unusual in that it's supposed to allow you both to move a message by an MLM rule and then also do other rules if you uncheck that box. But you should keep it checked if the other IMAP rules might move the message to a different folder or change to a different category, of course.)
... BTW, I’m assuming that the “don’t apply rules” checkbox in the advanced tab says to skip any IMAP rules that I may have set up ...
Yes, that's right. First MLM (so as to not mark as junk if from a mailing list), then Junk Mail Filter if not from a mailing list, then the other rules if not contradicted by MLM.
... And this implies that mail list manager actions take place before the IMAP rules ...
