Casady & Greene have finally released an OS X version of their OS 9 text-based database applications QuickDex/InfoGenie called iData Pro. iData has a number of new features, but its basic strength like its predecessors is very fast text searching with boolean "and" capability. The data files are simple text files.
iData comes with the ability to import Entourage mbox files and individual message files that have been dragged to the desktop, but I find that a bit awkward and inconvenient. I have written a simple script for the Script menu that archives a selected group of messages to an iData Entourage archive. It is very fast and could also be used in connection with a rule to automatically archive messages. iData and the archive do not need to be open, and there is no switching from Entourage to iData. Unlike mbox and other solutions, there is no easy way to import the archived messages back to Entourage, but that is a shortcoming I can live with to get speed and flexibility. The script, a readme file, and a dummy starter archive are available at http://homepage.mac.com/wjshack. Unfortunately C&G don't seem to have a demo of iData Pro available. -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
